English luxury brand Thomas Lyte is committed to supporting British craftspeople. We are delighted to be launching this Award, which aims to celebrate the importance of craftsmanship, increase the awareness of crafts and make craft accessible to a wider public.
The Thomas Lyte Modern Heritage Award, in association with the Crafts Council supports British craftsmanship by recognising the quality and breadth of the home-grown talent that exists today.
Great craft, like great art, provokes an emotional response on the part of the viewer. This award is a celebration of excellence and talent in the applied arts, supporting, rewarding and bringing recognition to those people who are creating the very best in contemporary functional craft. This award will give talented makers the opportunity and time to develop functional, commercial and beautiful objects that will inspire fresh interest in British craftsmanship.
The trophy was designed in house by Thomas Lyte designer Gemma Bone, who has been noted as one of England's most dynamic product designers, and hand made at the Thomas Lyte Silver London Workshop. Each finalist is represented by one of 9 curves and the surface texture and brushed finish modernise the design and challenge the traditional pre-conception of a trophy.
