The Thomas Lyte Design Signatures

The guiding principles behind the style and defining shape of many Thomas Lyte products were distilled from the core values of the Thomas Lyte brand. They are based on three icons of English heritage; The Spitfire, The Pillar Box and The Helter Skelter. The design influences are expressed discretely but significantly across many Thomas Lyte products.

The Spitfire Curve

The distinctive curved lines of the legendary Spitfire fighter plane inspire the characteristic asymmetrical curve which is widely used across a lot of our products. It can be identified in places such as the shape of our bags and the cut of the tabs and chaps.

The Pillar Box

The deep black kicking plate at the bottom of the classic English Pillar Box is a design detail that has been appropriated across many Thomas Lyte products. On bags it forms a protective shell in black bridle leather and in our small leather goods it is a distinctive leather trim.

Skelter Pockets

The Helter Skelter is an icon from traditional English fun fairs and the distinctive diagonal lines of the slide have inspired the cut of the pockets on Thomas Lyte wallets. All Thomas Lyte wallets and purses feature the 'Skelter Pockets' and make a stylistic connection with the English heritage of the brand.
