Thomas Lyte were awarded the commission to make a suite of new trophies for the Football League when Npower took over the sponsorship some four years ago. When Sky Bet assumed the title of Main Sponsor at the start of the season, the decision was taken to retain the current designs of trophies as they had stature and visual impact and over the course of their use, had become synonymous with the Football League Championship, League 1 and League 2.
Thomas Lyte re-branded the trophies so that all of the trophies currently in use and the replicas that are given to the clubs, carry the new sponsor logo. The main Football League Champions trophy stand 70cms high and are silver plated with three gold plated handles. The runners up receive a two handled trophy, 45 cms high, in silver plate with gold handles. The Play-Off Final trophies are to the same design as the League Champions trophies, except they are silver plated only and stand 60cms high.
The silver plating on each trophy is a minimum of 20 microns which allows engraving to be added to the trophy; where gold plating is used this is too at least 2 microns. Complimenting each of the trophies, Thomas Lyte have designed and supplied all medals presented to the players, the match officials, and the Man of the Match in these highly competitive Play-Off finals.
