Designers and Makers of The Powergen Cup

Before the EDF Energy Cup, Thomas Lyte were the Designers and Makers of The Powergen Cup.  When the respective English and Welsh rugby unions decided to stage an Anglo-Welsh competition, the sponsors Powergen commissioned Thomas Lyte to design and make this unique trophy in sterling silver in 2001.

The two unions were represented by the lion and dragon figures on the handles, and the first team to win the trophy was Wasps. They were also the last team to win the trophy as it was only played for on one occasion, and when a new sponsor took over the event the following season, Thomas Lyte designed and made a completely new trophy for the competition.
