Designers & Makers of The Dubai Crown Prince Endurance Cup 2017

Thomas Lyte are humbled to be the Designers and Makers of The Dubai Crown Prince Endurance Cup 2017. The Endurance Cup is part of a week long festival of events bringing down the curtain on Dubai's endurance season. Some of the top riders from around the world as well as UAE riders take part in the 119km ride which is held at the Dubai International Endurance City.

It is the most prestigious event held at the DIEC and commenced under the directives of the founder President HH Sh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and the guidance and support of the UAE Ruling families. The sport has topped popularity level among the endurance fraternity. The race itself is a competition against the clock where the endurance and skills of the rider and horse are put to the test. This trophy is inspired by the qualities and personality of his Highness Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Al Maktoum, the Crown Prince of Dubai. The trophy is 'modern, sporty and everything a young man should be like.'

Crafted from nearly 13kg of hallmarked solid Sterling Silver and 24 karat gold plating, the trophy stands at an amazing 100cm in height and took nearly 600 hours to craft.  This trophy channels the futuristic and progressive aspects of Dubai while still accounting for the historic and traditional roots.  The body of the trophy features traditional Arabic forms, stylised and embellished through chasing.  Chasing is a process were a silversmith using a hammer and chisel shapes the sterling silver.  The contemporary twisted handles punctuate the classic body and connect to a modern fluted base and plinth.

The elegant and lyrical lines of the trophy channel the Crown Prince's passion for poetry in Nabati.  Figural representation has flourished in Islamic cultures and this is reflected in the hand cast horseman holding the UAE Flag.  It also represents the Crown Prince's passion for everything equestrian as it is a perfect replica of the Crown Prince during a previous race. Transmitting text in a decorative form, calligraphy has been engraved along the top of the trophy and continues in the span band at the base of the trophy features the Dubai logo.

This trophy has so many different elements to it that it has to be seen to be truly appreciated.  It exquisitely showcases that Thomas Lyte are Masters of the Trade.
