March 2017, Meydan Dubai: This afternoon, Royal Warrant holders Thomas Lyte, will witness the launch of a magnificent new trophy made in their London workshops, at the Meydan racecourse in Dubai.
The trophy design was inspired by the qualities and personality of his Highness Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Al Maktoum. At the core of the brief was the amalgamation of classic and modern design. The trophy channels the futuristic and progressive aspects of Dubai while still accounting for the historic and traditional roots. The Thomas Lyte design team incorporate contemporary designs with classic craftsmanship, combined with modern techniques and talent.
The trophy stands a magnificent 1 metre high. Crafted using almost 13kg of sterling silver, with the decorative artwork on the body of the trophy created by a master chaser using a hammer and chisel to chase the sterling silver which is then plated in 24 carat gold.
The handles are contrasting in colour in sterling silver, punctuating the classic body, which gives a wildly modern feel to the trophy. On top of the trophy is a hand sculpted, perfect replica of the Crown Prince during a previous race.
Kevin Baker, Chief Executive and Founder said “We are privileged and honoured to be chosen to create such an iconic trophy, for this exceedingly important event in Dubai, the Crown Prince Endurance Cup. At Thomas Lyte we are exceedingly proud to have these skills that we are ensuring are here for tomorrow, not just today.”
The trophy was unveiled at the Dubai Crown Prince Endurance Cup Press Conference held on 16th March. The Endurance Cup is part of a week-long festival of events bringing down the curtain on Dubai's endurance season. Some of the top riders from around the world as well as UAE riders take part in the 119km ride which is held at the Dubai International Endurance City.
To mark this special occasion a video has been created by The Luxury Channel, telling the story behind the trophy.
