LMA Performance of the Week Award - Alex Neil

The LG Performance of the Week Award is decided weekly by the LMA panel, consisting of LMA Chairman Howard Wilkinson, Sir Alex Ferguson, Joe Royle, Dave Bassett and Barry Fry. Each winner will recieve a specially commissioned optical crystal trophy made by our very own silversmiths at the Workshop.

This week it was agreed that the LG Performance of the Week Award should go to Norwich City following their crucial 3-2 victory against relegation rivals, Newcastle United, in the Barclays Premier League on Saturday 2nd April 2016.

The importance of the win will become clear at the end of the season, with Norwich moving 4 points clear of the relegation zone and 6 points clear on Newcastle, who have a game in hand.

At the end of a tentative first half for both teams, Norwich defender Timm Klose rose above his marker to give Norwich the advantage in injury time.

The second half then burst into action as the two teams exchanged blows, with Aleksandar Mitrovic equalizing twice for the visitors either side of Dieumerci Mbokani’s stunning strike.

However, a last minute gamble from Martin Olsson secured a dramatic win for Neil’s side as he strode into the Newcastle box from left-back to fire past Newcastle’s keeper Karl Darlow.

Alex Neil told BBC Sport: "It was a strange game but we were the better team throughout. It looked as if we were going to fail to capitalise but that's the best way to win a game.

"We went through the other side against Liverpool, conceding in the last minute of stoppage time, so huge credit to the players. We have great spirit here and we showed that in abundance.

"Football is an entertainment sport and everyone has gone home with their money's worth. We have started to turn it around, that's seven points in three games."
