Medals and medallions have been crafted since at least the 4th century BC. Alexander the Great first used them to award the King’s guards as a sign of honour which would be pinned to their uniform. Romans continued the tradition with suspension loops, allowing the medallions to be worn as jewellery on a chain. Carried through time, these traditions are continued today.
Recognising the history of medals and medallions, the Thomas Lyte team strive to design the best bespoke commemoration manufactured in the 21st century. Passionate about your needs, our team of expert designers can create medals to define any event. We work closely to all of our client’s exacting specifications, and as Goldsmiths and Silversmiths to the Royal Household, we can produce in gold, sterling silver and bronze. We can also plate any of these materials to meet a more competitive budget and add neck ribbons as standard.
The Making of…
We act as your personal workshop in London. It is about the glory, the sense of achievement the wearer gets when the medal is placed around their neck. Our craftsmen work meticulously, focusing on every element of each medal to ensure that yours is one to remember. Each medal and medallion is bespoke; logos, wording, ribbon colours, even the shape of the medal, can be custom designed. Our aim is to have every design leave a lasting impression.
Once the designs and craftsmanship have come together, the final presentation is just as important. We provide branded wooden presentation boxes to and keep the medals safe and secure during transportation. The branded boxes offer an exquisite final touch to the presentation and protection to the medals. We work with you on size, shape and branding of these boxes to complete the look.
