Silver Care Instructions
General tarnish on your silver can be removed using Hagerty Silver Foam, which will gently remove dirt without interfering with the matt finish of the piece.
Wearing gloves, dampen the sponge provided and apply a small amount of the red paste to your silver. Rub the silver until the paste foams and all traces of tarnish have been removed. Rinse thoroughly in running water and dry with a soft cloth, use a hair dryer to avoid watermarks. Haggerty’s Silver Foam is widely available on the Internet. Alternatively, use Ecover Cream Cleaner (available in most supermarkets or health food shops) on matt surfaces but avoiding gilded or polished areas. DO NOT use Ecover on gilded and oxidised items or polished areas, use warm soapy water to clean these areas.
Although these dishes can be used to contain salt or dressings, please be aware that salt is a corrosive and will damage the surface of the silver. Therefore, please remove all traces of fruit acids and salt as soon as possible (e.g. after dinner) in order to avoid permanent damage to the silver. Gold plated areas are suitable for prolonged exposure to salt, however, these areas should be cleaned only with warm soapy water. Silver dip and other cleaning products will remove the gold.
Health & Safety: It is advisable to use a well-ventilated area and to wear gloves and an apron whilst cleaning silver, and wash hands thoroughly afterwards.
