Designers & Makers of the Premier League Champions Medal

The Premier League is the world’s most popular professional football league; combining a high octane, intensive style of play and featuring many of the world’s best players and most loved clubs.

In 2016, the Premier League undertook a brand refresh, creating a flexible brand identity with Design Studio, which included reimagining the iconic Premier League lion logo.

Thomas Lyte were proud to be awarded the commission to design and produce a new collection of medals that would align with this fresh new vision; including all of the winners and runners-up medals for the Premier League’s domestic competitions as well as international tournaments- from youth development league medals to Premier League Champions.

Our objective was to showcase the Premier League’s iconic lion logo in medals which reflected the prestigious nature of the competition. The result is an eye-catching collection of medals meticulously crafted in fine silver and 24 carat gold plate.

Presented in custom Premier League-branded presentation boxes, each medal is awarded with a screen-printed ribbon bespoke to the winning team’s colours. This requires multiple ribbon colour combinations to be stitched ahead of time as the league moves towards its conclusion and the pack of teams competing for the title become clearer.

The 2016/17 Season saw Chelsea FC crowned Premier League Champions, becoming the first side to be awarded the new medals designed and made by Thomas Lyte. Since then, Pep Guardiola’s record-breaking Manchester City side have won back-to-back titles.

Premier League champions medals are distributed to managers, players and officials as each club sees fit, provided every player has made at least five Premier League appearances.
