On 9 September 2015, Her Majesty The Queen will reach a remarkable milestone as the longest-reigning monarch in British history, a position previously held by Queen Victoria. In 1897, Illustrated London News marked Victoria’s era-defining monarchy with the publication of A Record Number for a Record Reign, the most ambitious and lavish production the ILN had ever published.
To pay tribute to both Record Reigns, ILN will publish a special Limited Edition book set: an exact reproduction of the original, beautiful publication commemorating Queen Victoria’s reign, and a stunning new companion volume, The Record Reign of Queen Elizabeth II. In an exclusive partnership with ILN, Thomas Lyte customers can order this exclusive set THE RECORD REIGN in advance here (link). This is large format (larger than A3), gilt-edged, printed on superb paper, hand-finished, foiled and cloth-bound – the two volumes presented in a cloth-bound slipcase. The book set is priced at £295.00 and is a limited print run of 1,000 copies.
A donation will be made to QEST (The Queen Elizabeth Scholarship Trust), the charitable arm of the Royal Warrant Holders Association, for every copy sold, to support British craftsmanship. There is also a soft-backed “bookazine” (cross between a book and a magazine) edition available for sale.
ILN has commissioned a special new portrait of The Queen at the Order of the Garter ceremony, painted in oil by the talented QEST scholar and artist Alastair Barford. This will be exclusive to The Record Reign. Limited edition signed prints are also available to order at £150.00.
